About James
An eye for detail. A lifelong love of dogs.
I’m James, a pet portrait photographer, lifelong dog owner and the person behind the camera here. I grew up with Springer Spaniels, and today I share life with my wife Ali, our daughter Zoe, our pony Eddie and Bruno, our Golden Retriever.
Bruno is also the studio mascot. He loves having his photograph taken, and it was photographing him that made me realise how much I enjoy creating pet portraits.
How I found my way here
Ali and I received a DSLR as a wedding present in 2010, and I was hooked. I began photographing events and friends’ weddings, before the lasting effects of injuries from a car accident in 2007 led me to take a break.
I then discovered macro photography. I was drawn to textures, patterns and colour: the details in tree bark and woodland that are easy to walk past. I still enjoy heading into the woods with a camera and seeing what I can find.
When Zoe became passionate about riding, I started photographing her and Eddie. Seeing the love and joy between them drew me towards equine photography, which I still do today.
Long periods outdoors can be physically challenging for me, so I tried photographing Bruno in a studio setting. I immediately loved it. That first experiment grew into a dedicated studio at home and a passion for pet portraiture.
Details, character and a little patience
Alongside photography, I work for a technology company building data and AI platforms. I’ve spent more than twenty years in technology, much of it focused on databases and performance optimisation. I’m naturally drawn to detail and enjoy looking at things differently, something that runs through my photography too.
Studio pet photography brings together so much of what I enjoy: the technical craft, the creative decisions and the care involved in working with animals. I find it challenging and deeply rewarding.
When friends first saw my finished portraits, their excitement—and their wish to have their own pets photographed—encouraged me to take this further.
I want you to enjoy the experience as much as I enjoy creating the photographs. My aim is for you and your pet to feel welcome, and for you to leave happy and excited about the artwork we’re creating together.

I’d love to meet yours

Tell me a little about your pet and what you’d like from their portraits. We’ll start with a conversation and take it from there.
